I just received WaterField's iPhone Suede Jacket for Apple iPhone 4.
They are a San Francisco local company and design/manufacture their products right in the city. I happened to live in the same city so it took only a day to get my mail box.
This is basically a piece of thin suede cut and sewn together precisely for iPhone 4. It's very simple. If you have an old keyboard cover lying around and a set of steady hands, probably you can make it yourself with a few tries to get the size right. But it is well put together and sizing is just right, and cost only $10 so I'm happy with the pricing.
They have a variation for iPhone 4 + Bumper as well as those with an external pocket for earbuds and such. Mine is #31 on their list, and it's meant to be used with an iPhone 4 without any other cases. I have installed a protection shield kit on my iPhone so the overall size of the phone is slightly thicker than a truly naked phone. The jacket held the phone well and it won't accidentally drop out even when I hold the jacket upside down. I think it will ease up a bit over time, but the resistance is just right when you pull the phone.
The photos tell the rest of the story. Again, it's very simple an thin. Don't expect any protection against a drop or rough handling. It's just here to cover up the surface when your iPhone is not in use. But this is all I wanted. Because it's suede, glass panels of the phone get wiped clean every time you pull it out. It will protect the phone from elements in your pocket, and you can put your phone on top of the jacket on coffee table or desk if you are rocking your Jesus Phone 4 full naked in its purest form. I've seen people reporting the back panel of iPhone 4 is actually very prone to hairline scratches. (I believe it's the coating that's getting scratched, not the actual glass)
When I commute, I have my Timbuk2 (also SF local company)
"2way" carrying case attached to my backpack or messenger bag. For weekend activities, I'm planning to use a case of TPU, silicon, plastic or a combination of them for more protection against rough handling and possible drop.
This jacket is for the times I don't want to carry my man-purse or bags. I just want to carry my iPhone and money clip when I'm dinning with friends, going to parties or bars, etc. I can just put my iPhone in this jacket and drop it into the front pocket of my skinny jeans or yet again skinny jacket without worrying too much.
